Last week we were featured in an article written by local journalist Glenn Fleishman for Fast Company. Glenn did a great job of not only explaining our past, being founded by a ten year-old, but looking forward at our future. It was an exciting day around the Smithy for us to be featured on the homepage of the major news outlet and in their email newsletter.
After spending the summer selling buttons at local farmers markets, Henry visited some local businesses to see if they were interested in having his buttons in store. At a ski and bike shop the owner wasn't interested in buttons, but was looking for ski pass holders. That conversation lead Henry to start thinking about badge reels and how to improve upon the current designs. Henry wanted to go beyond the basic one design reels and allow people to swap their tops out to express themselves. Henry got the idea to start Buttonsmith Inc. after participating in a trading post during the fourth grade. He brought buttons, while most others brought consumable goods. After having success during the trading post, he sold his buttons at local farmers markets during the summer. Once the farmers market season ended he moved online. Now Buttonsmith products are available on Amazon and buttonsmithinc.com.
